180sx: Exhaust
The exhaust that came on the 180 was pretty mangled I wish I took more photos. It had a massive pinch, hangers hose clamped to other hangers along with mulitple leaks/holes.
First up was fitting the Dmax dual front pipe. Didn't go as well as planned I had to get a 2.75" 3 bolt flange to use as a spacer due to the nismo engine mounts making it foul on the floor.
I decided to use a 200 cell cat to be a bit more "street friendly" and to hopefully not smell like a servo after each drive. I made this jig off of a JDM cat awhile ago.
The gaps were annoying to weld but I got it done.
One more piece to the puzzle done.
Just had a missing bracket for the front pipe brace to solve. Since I'm running a stainless manifold I wanted to make sure I had all the appropriate bracing/hangers.
A bit of cardboard aided design.
Leftover metal plate, grinder, drill, paint and we have a bracket!
Hoping this helps. A flex along the system would've been ideal too but I didn't have anywhere to put one.
I reused the Kakimoto GT1.0z cannon from the s14 since it looked cool and would be cool to have yet another iconic piece from the s14 on the car. I also added a mid muffler to help quieten it down on the street too.
The cannon originally slips onto the catback but we don't get the same size piping here to do that so I welded a vband to some 3" then that to the cannon itself.
I tucked the mid muffler as high as I could while making sure it had adequate clearance to everything around it.
Quickly welded up the front section.
So I actually tucked the mid muffler too high lol. I should've checked how the next section was going to look going under the diff before committing to welding it. I had to play around with a mandrel and a pie to get it to clear the diff while not hanging too much.
Crisis averted time to power on with the rest.
Home run with two 90 bends to mate up to the cannon.
I welded the rest up then it was time to do hangers. I thought I had more 12mm round bar than I really did so I had to get creative and steal the hangers from the original Kakimoto system to hang the cannon.
One catback exhaust ready to go.
Fits quite nicely at least. The GK poly hangers help to reduce the movement so nothing was contacting on a shake test.
Overall I'm happy with how it turned out. A few unnecessary bends but for my low power goals it shouldn't be a problem anyways. Definitely love how the gt1.0z cannon looks!
