So yesterday, Jamboree held their first event down in Melbourne at Calder Park and it was a pretty fun day. I'm actually not really into drag racing so it was a pretty cool insight into top tier level of this side of motor sport.
Roman Pearce down under
I made my way around the pits to have a look at some of the teams and what heat they were bringing. The majority of team entrants seemed to be from interstate, hopefully this sparks a fire for more Melbourne workshops to bring something to the party next year.
The one and only Maatouks Racing
To be honest, I wouldn't have a clue who Maatouks Racing were if it weren't for Neni. Never in my life have I seen anyone froth VL's more than him. When I was a kid, I used to just like these because they made really cool sounds haha, but never realised back then how serious these cars are taken. Their own car "VL GOD" was having traction issues yesterday but from memory still managed to pull a 7.2 second run down the 1/4 mile on the day but however back in Sydney they managed a 6.8s.
RH7GTR now
Another amazing car in my eyes for the day was this R32 GTR hailing from sydney. The car is still "Street Registered" and managed a 7.91 second run on street spec tyres. The car still runs twins which each one looks big enough to be used for a single application. The vehicle is also equipped with a power glide. It was also nice to see the crowd cheering for this car too, it showed the diversity of the spectators and how everyone was just there for the racing.
There were also a few stalls there on the day ranging from street wear to race jackets and even hot wheels, I had to avoid the hot wheels one before I ended up with a car full of model cars and an empty bank account.
Gwyn was present with his Gripshiftslide stand, thanks again for hooking me up with the sunglasses and check out his blog if you haven't yet as there is amazing content to be found.
G.S.S
Saint Side were also present for any street wear and low rider bike needs and also provided some shade for me for when the heat was starting to get to me haha. They've got two stores in Melbourne and an online store with a heap of cool gear so give them a suss too especially their special edition pomades, shit smells so delicious that you want to eat it!
Gripshiftslide and Saint Side together, now you know you in trouble.
Vic Drift also held a comp on at the Thunderdome so if you were getting a bit tired of seeing cars travel in a straight line, you could mix it up with ones going sideways. There was quite a large crowd viewing and Choonga's voice gracing the air with his commentary.
I also spotted a few cool cars around Calder Park getting their hard park on
Owner must be very poor
The one and only Primal Garage
I have the sudden urge to go buy some VS-XX
Overall it was a great day despite the fluctuating weather making me go from sweating my ass off to freezing my tits off in the space of 20 minutes and regretting not bringing a jumper. It was a good variety of cars and the event had a great atmosphere with nice friendly vibes from everyone. I'll be looking forward to the one next year.
